Here is a film clip from the Austrian archives about the Wright Brothers demonstrating their plane in Italy in 1909. What is even more fantastic is there was an on-board camera on the Wright plane and the last part of this film shows it. Wilbur Wright is at the controls on both of the flights www.europafilmtreasures.eu/PY/322/fiche_technique.htm?ID=322 GREAT video considering it's 100 years old and the quality/weight of the equipment of that day. Note the pitch stability and the yaw string on the canard. Goose

Cool Video Goose. It is amazing that some people think that the Wright brothers were the first people to fly when in fact gliding started before their first powered flight. If I have my facts right, man first took untethered flight in 1783 with the aid of a hot air balloon by two men, named Froncois Pilatre de Rozier and the Marquis d'Arlandes. They flew 5 1/2 miles from Bois de Boulogne to Butte-aux-Cailles. The controls for the flight was a water bucket and a giant sponge for the onboard fire. (And we worry about having a radio on board and a working transponder.) It was 1891 when Otto Lilienthal successfully flew his glider No.3 for a few short flights. His glider No.11 made a whopping 1200ft glide in 1894. Wow! Unfortunately even though he built 15 gliders he fatally broke his back with No.11 in 1896 We are so fortunate to have the aircraft we have today! Hot air balloons are safer than ever, hang gliders are safe and controllable, and sail planes allow us to fly with ease and land with comfort. Thought some might have found this interesting. Thanks for the cool Vid. Skimmer
