First, some unwelcome news. Lee Edling's Mom passed away from her cancer. Lee was in Colorado taking care of her. Lee has alot to do but will return to Air Sailing when he can.
I know we all feel part of his sorrow.
Stew Crane and Goose are mentioned in a very good article about Stew's friend flying at Air Sailing in NSA's 2-33. Click on the link below if your computer allows that. I think you'll
enjoy reading it.

News on insurance: Last week Stoney and Chukar had a conference call with Costello about insuring our fleet.
For background, NSA had over $100,000 in claims in years past and AIG (thru Costello) wouldn't discuss insuring us. We have been insuring for liability only.
One reason we formed SIERRA FLIERS LLC was to put the ownership of the gliders into the LLC and try to get them insured. Avemco has insured the 4 single place gliders (1-26,2 1-36s, and Pegasus) the past couple of years. Rates weren't too bad for liability only, about
$1300 for the 4. The 2 2-33s have been insured through Costello under a commercial, not club, policy for liability for the past 2 years and cost $500 each glider. The problem is that the Avemco insurance has so many exceptions that we are not covered as we like and so we required pilots to have nonowners' insurance to cover the gaps and for hull damage. For instance a new solo pilot can fly the 2-33s and be covered with Costello but not the single place gliders with Avemco.
Our Avemco policy expires on 20 April and the 2-33s on 5 June.
Expect the following:
1. All gliders will be covered under a commercial policy with Costello at a slight increased cost with much better coverage.
2. Glider pilots will still be responsible for the first $2500 damage (the canopy clause).
3. Pilots will not have to be members of SSA - Soaring Society of America (tho we still encourage this).
4. Once this plan is in operation and we have coverage by Costello (April 20) pilots will no longer be REQUIRED to have nonowners' insurance (but you may have their insurance to cover the canopy clause or more if you like.
5. This past week we have put $15000 into a CD at Wells Fargo from our checking account as our self insured fund for hull damage.
6. Expect a dues increase of $5/month to cover the increase and this will be more than offset by a big savings fron the cancellation of your nonowners' insurance. We will vote on this at our annual meeting. If you have already paid your dues, either annually or quarterly, only future dues will be affected.
This has been a very complicated and frustrating operation but we feel we are MUCH better positioned to instruct, give rides, rent to visiting pilots, and more.
SIERRA FLIERS LLc owns all 6 gliders and the new NSA owns the Pawnee which also has a commercial policy from Costello including hull insurance.
If you plan on going to Bishop 24-28 June, let Chukar know as we have other pilots asking about attending. Our fliers will have prioity. You won't have to commit right now.
