Just thought I should spill the beans on Skimmer and Raven.
It seems they've started a new Pep Boy's Mobile Tire Repair Service at the ASI Airport. How... and why... you may ask?
I picked up a 3 by .25 inch bolt in one of my tires a few days ago and fortunately discovered it right as I pulled in to the club house. I have no idea where it happened but I suspect there are a few more bolts out there somewhere... more on that later.
Anyhow, Skimmer has a full tire plug kit in his auto tool case - and Raven is pretty darn good at field repairs himself. In about five minutes, they not only helped me out but pretty much did the repair job themselves, and I was filling the tire with air from the hangar compressors.
A few days later Gary Phillips gave Aaron and myself our commercial rides - and upon packing up to head home, we discovered one of his tires was dead flat. Surprise... another FOD tire kill, this time a four inch long wood screw lodged in there.
Well, by now Skimmer and Raven are slapping hands together in glee and swapping out the screw for a tire plug and compressed air like a NASCAR pit crew. I think this repair effort took about 10 minutes from discovery and head scratch to making dust trails on the way out to Winnemucca ranch road.
It was eerie. Well, yeah, eerie how quickly Skimmer and Raven can fix a flat. But also how many bolts are out there waiting to be picked up by unsuspecting tires. Y'all be careful out there and check your tires after parking and before leaving so a slow tire leak doesn't turn into a highway blowout. In the mean time I think in addition to my mobile tire plug kit I now have I may pick up another tire plug kit for Skimmer. I think I owe him one!
